Live Aerial map view of the Atlantic Wall in France built in World War 2
Enjoy this fantastic view of the Atlantic Wall which was an extensive system of coastal fortifications built by Nazi Germany between 1942 and 1944 along the western coast of Europe as a defense against an anticipated Allied invasion of the mainland continent from Great Britain.Early in 1944, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel was assigned to improve the Wall\'s defences. Rommel believed the existing coastal fortifications were entirely inadequate and he immediately began strengthening them. Under his direction, a string of reinforced concrete pillboxes were built along the beaches, or sometimes slightly inland, to house machine guns, antitank guns, and light artillery.
Enjoy this historic View of some bunkers that made up part of the Atlantic Wall http:/ / maps.google.co.uk/ maps?q = German+bunkers+at+Longues-sur-Mer+in+France&hl = en&ll = 49.343233,-0.693512&spn = 0.002583,0.005681&sll = 53.800651,-4.064941&sspn = 19.248626,46.538086&vpsrc = 6&hq = German+bunkers+at+Longues-sur-Mer&hnear = France&t = h&z = 18

Live aerial map view of the Möhne Dam in Germany, a target for the Dambusters
The Möhne Dam was one of the first targets of the Dambusters raid in May 1943. Hit twice by the 5 aircraft that were tasked with bombing it with only 3 of the aircraft returning. George Gibson the flight leader flew his aircraft across the dam to draw the flak away from Peter Martin\'s run after seeing Mother Hopgood\'s plane hit by flak on its run. In terms of deaths, tragically at least 1,579 bodies were found along the Möhne and Ruhr rivers, with hundreds missing.
